Travelling rural areas and talking computers with horticulturists and farmers, one alarming thing you notice is that very few are doing their data backups safely.
A new software program that some larger packhouses have taken up recently is iBak. The latest American software is hosted by the only local I.S.P, Tasman Solutions, but any internet connection will do. It is competitively priced and easy to use. When we loose data, and we all do, it might not ruin your business, but it is frustrating and expensive if you have to call in help. This new technology allows you to choose the crucial files you want saved and stores them in two remote locations. You set the backup program to run automatically (usually daily or when your machine is shut down) and only the actual changes to each file, the ones you have worked with since your last programmed backup day, are sent via the internet to the remote servers.
Not only is it very fast but the data is compressed and encrypted. Compression with text is well under 50%, and the encryption allows only you to read the data, as you select a password. If at any time you loose a file, like we all do from time to time, you simply press select 'file' and press 'restore'. It comes back via the net. If you have a huge failure, hard drive, fire or theft, you simply contact ibak.co.nz and they will burn a CD for you. In fact if you have data of files that are not going to change i.e. plans, contract etc, they will burn a CD anytime for you. The system is monitored 24 hours a day 7 days a week.
It's a safe option when considering backup, visit their web site:
