NEW SERVICE MANAGER AT AGRIMECH

By Rick Coleman

The past few months have seen a new face appear in the service department of Agrimech in Blenhiem. Chris Johnston joined the large workshop team in March this year and brings with him years of experience.Chris served his mechanical apprenticeship in north Otago and after spending two years in western Canada in the agricultural sector he spent three years in the UK employed in a DAF trucking franchise. Returning to New Zealand he has spent the last ten years with Southern Tractors, another John Deere dealership in Christchurch.

He feels that John Deere tractors have retained their name and image for years. "It's still the original company where others have changed or been taken over, they have stuck with the original principles, and are well established, solid and stable," he commented.

Agrimech have sold over 70 new tractors in the last year, most with a service contract. "It gives customers an idea of what they are going to spend and a budget for servicing," he said, "and makes sure the tractors stay up to scratch. Ultimately it gives them a service history when they come to trade, and it reduces down time during the season."

Ivan Benseman, the previous service manager remains with the company involved with administration and warranties. But Chris is enjoying his new role saying they have a good crew at Agrimech, and though his main role is now dealing with the customers he does get to work in the workshop occasionally. "Oh yes, I've still got overalls," he laughs.
